Ashanti Shequoiya Doug, better known in the media as Ashanti was born on October 13, 1981 in Glen Cove New York United States. She is a popular American musician, singer and actress. Ashanti became famous as an 18-year-old and was signing with Murder Inc. Records in 2002. The same year, she was featured in the Fat Joe's What's Luv? The singer also appeared on the Fat Joe's hit song"What's Luv?" Her first appearance as a female artist to take the top two spots on Billboard Hot 100 list in the United States with Foolish at number one, and The song What's Luv? Ashanti Douglas, or Ashanti as she is more commonly known was born at Glen Cove New York in the year 1980. Tina Douglas' mother was teacher of dance, and Ken-Kaide Douglas, the mother of Ashanti Douglas is also a singer. Kenashia Shia is her older sibling. Douglas named her Ashanti to honor Ghana's Ashanti Empire that was where women ruled and had power and influence. Douglas wanted Ashantis to follow this paradigm. James was her grandpa.
